Whigfield is Italian dance act fronted by Danish singer, songwriter and record producer Sannie Charlotte Carlson. She is best known for her 1993 single “Saturday Night”, which became an international hit the following year.
Whigfield studied fashion design, worked as a model by day and as a PR girl for clubs at night. A club DJ asked Whigfield to sing for a music production duo, after which she performed a song sample for an Italian producer. He hired her to record “Saturday Night”
The song went straight in at #1 on the UK charts and Whigfield became the first female artist to go directly to #1 in the UK with a debut single. In its first week it sold more copies in the UK than any single since Band Aid. It became the third million seller by a woman in Britain.
