Tony Christie is a British singer who was first signed to a major record label in 1969. He is best known for his hits “Is This The Way To Amarillo?”, “I Did What I Did For Maria” and “Avenues and Alleyways” which was the theme tune to the TV series The Protectors.

He recorded albums regularly throughout the 1970s but, as his popularity began to wane in the UK, he maintained a successful singing career in continental Europe (especially in Germany where he recorded nine albums especially for the that market).

In 2002, “Is This the Way to Amarillo” was used in a TV comedy series which led to a resurgence in his popularity. Then the song was re-released on 14 March 2005 to raise money for the Comic Relief charity, and reached Number 1 in the UK Singles Chart.

Tony Christie’s nineteenth studio album, Now’s the Time!, was released in the UK in 2011 and he embarked on a 50-date national tour promoting it. He continues to perform live; as recently as 2017 he has headlined at summer festivals.
