Steppenwolf is a hard rock band who were famous in the late 1960’s. John Kay (the lead singer) was German born whose family moved to Canada in the 1950’s and then around the United States in subsequent years. Originally part of the folk rock scene John Kay met Goldy McJohn (keyboards), Jerry Edmonton (drums), Michael Monarch (guitar) and Rushton Moreve (bass guitar) and Steppenwolf was born.

Steppenwolf sold millions of records worldwide, released several albums and 12 Billboard Hot 100 singles, of which six were top 40 hits and included the massive “Born To Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride”,  The band enjoyed worldwide success from 1968 to 1972, but clashing personalities led to the end of the core lineup. Today, John Kay is the only original member, having served as the lead singer since 1967.
