Scritti Politti are a British pop band, originally formed in 1977 and enjoyed significant chart success in the UK from the early to mid-1980s.
Beginning as a Marxist, DIY post-punk band fronted by art school student Green Gartside, Scritti Politti transitioned into a mainstream pop music project in the early to mid-1980s, enjoying significant success in the record charts in the UK and the US.
When they were first starting out the band hand-made the record sleeves of their first three singles to try to keep costs down. They were later signed to Rough Trade Records
