Roger Whittaker was an African-born British singer / songwriter.
He took up the guitar at the age of seven and learned to sing songs in Swahili, but did not think of music as a career until much later. After finishing a stint in the African armed forces, Roger Whittaker tried to study medicine but found it was not for him. Eventually gaining a place at Bangor University in North Wales, UK, he studied whilst writing and performing music in local clubs and bars.
By the late 1960’s he had established international recognition and his British single “I Don’t Believe in ‘If’ Anymore,” reached the pop Top Ten of the UK charts. He was probably best known for his song “The Last Farewell” which reached number 1 in 11 countries.
