Rita Coolidge (born May 1, 1945) is an American recording artist. During the 1970s and 1980s, she sang in various musical genres, including folk, country, R&B, pop, rock and jazz and won two Grammy Awards with fellow musician Kris Kristofferson.

Whilst Florida State University to study art, she formed a folk group called R.C. and the Moonpies. After graduation she moved to Memphis and sang radio-station IDs and commercial jingles the progressed to life as a backing singer for various artists. In 1977 she released a solo album with cover songs in the R&B style. The album went platinum.
