Reger

Johann Baptist Joseph Maximilian Reger (19 March 1873 – 11 May 1916), was a German composer, pianist, organist, conductor, and academic teacher. He worked as a concert pianist, as a musical director and as a professor.

Reger first composed mainly Lieder, chamber music, choral music and works for piano and organ. He later turned to orchestral compositions, and to works for choir and orchestra.

The Virgin’s Slumber Song was originally a folk-song which was taken by the Max Reger and transformed in 1912 into a Christmas song.

Lyrics

Amid the roses, Mary sits and rocks her Jesus child
While amid the tree tops
Sighs the breeze so warm and mild
And soft and sweetly
Sings a bird upon the bow
Ah baby, dear one
Slumber now
