The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City, USA in 1974. Despite achieving only limited commercial success, the band was vastly influential in both the United States and the United Kingdom. They performed over 2,000 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years and in 1996 played a farewell concert and disbanded.  In 2011, the group was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

In their career, The Ramones released a total of 14 studio albums, with their final release being 1995’s ¡Adios Amigos!. They also released numerous live albums and compilations.

The Ramones were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, and were also nominated for a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2005. In 2011, the band was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The members of The Ramones eventually parted ways in 1996. Joey Ramone died in 2001, Dee Dee Ramone died in 2002, and Johnny and Tommy Ramone both passed away in 2004. The band’s influence and legacy continues, with many of their songs being covered by other bands and artists, and their influence being felt in the punk rock music scene today.
