Labi Siffre (born June 25, 1945) is a British singer, songwriter, and musician. He is probably best known for his 1987 song “Something Inside So Strong“. It was one of the biggest successes of his career, peaking at number four on the UK Singles Chart.

He began playing piano at the age of five and taught himself to play guitar and drums. By the age of 14 he was leading his own band, the Soulmates.

Siffre’s career began in the 1960s with a series of singles, including a cover of the Beatles’ “She Loves You”. His first album, ‘Labi Siffre’, was released in 1967. His second album, ‘Crying, Laughing, Loving, and Lying’, was released in 1970 and featured the song “It Must Be Love”, which was covered by Madness in 1981 and reached number four in the UK.

He has also written songs for a number of artists, including Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, and Sting.

Labi Siffre has been awarded an Ivor Novello Award and a Brit Award. He was appointed an MBE in the 2006 Birthday Honours.
