K’Naan is a rapper from Somalia who gained international recognition with his hit song “Wavin’ Flag.” He was born in Mogadishu in 1978.

In 1991, K’Naan and his family fled Somalia and sought asylum in Canada, settling in Toronto. It was there that he began to pursue his musical career, blending hip-hop with his unique storytelling style influenced by Somali poetry. He released his debut album, “The Dusty Foot Philosopher,” in 2005, which garnered critical acclaim for its poignant lyrics and political themes.

However, it was K’Naan’s collaboration with Coca-Cola for the 2010 FIFA World Cup that catapulted him to global fame. His song “Wavin’ Flag” became an anthem for the tournament and was reworked by popular artists such as will.i.am and David Guetta.

Since then, K’Naan has released several more albums, including “Troubadour” in 2009 and “Country, God or the Girl” in 2012.
