Irene Cara is an American singer and actress.

Cara showed an early interest in music and acting. She began taking piano lessons at the age of five and appeared in her first school play at the age of seven.

Cara’s big break came in 1978 when she was cast as one of the leads in the film musical “Fame”. The film was a huge success and launched Cara’s career. She went on to star in the film’s sequel, “Fame II”, and also released a successful album of the same name.

In the 1980s, Cara also found success as a songwriter. She wrote the songs “Flashdance… What a Feeling” and “The Dream (Hold on to Your Dream)” for the film “Flashdance”. Both songs were huge hits and earned Cara an Academy Award and a Grammy Award.

Cara’s career continued to be successful over the ensuing few decades. She appeared in a number of films and television shows, and released several more albums. She is also a successful stage actress, appearing in several Broadway productions.
