Extreme was an American hard rock band formed in Malden, Massachusetts in 1985. Members were Gary Cherone (vocals), Nuno Bettencourt (guitar, vocals), Paul Geary (drums), and Pat Badger (bass).

The band formed with the goal of playing original music, and moved to Boston, recording demos and performing at local clubs. They released their debut album, Extreme in 1989, and it became a hit, reaching the #10 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart, and producing two top hits, “More Than Words” and “Hole Hearted”.

In 1992, Extreme released their second album, ‘Pornograffiti’. Featuring the hits “Decadence Dance” and “Get the Funk Out”, the album was even more successful than their debut, reaching #10 on the Billboard 200.

In 1995, they released their third studio album Waiting for the Punchline, which was a critical and commercial flop.

1996 saw the band take a break as frontman Gary left to join the rock band Van Halen

The band reunited and disbanded several times over the ensuing years. They released an album in 2008 and again in 2023.
