Debbie Reynolds (born Mary Frances Reynolds; April 1, 1932 – December 28, 2016) was an American actress, singer, and businesswoman. Her career spanned almost 70 years.

She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her portrayal of Helen Kane in the 1950 film Three Little Words, and her breakout role was as Kathy Selden in Singin’ in the Rain (1952). Other notable successes include The Affairs of Dobie Gillis (1953), Susan Slept Here (1954), Bundle of Joy (1956), The Singing Nun (1966), Charlotte’s Web (1973) and Mother (1996).

Reynolds was the mother of actress and writer Carrie Fisher. Reynolds and her daughter had a turbulent relationship, which Fisher wrote about in her semi-autobiographical novel Postcards from the Edge.

Reynolds was a noted philanthropist, active with such organisations as The Thalians, helping to raise funds in support of mental health programs, and The Motion Picture & Television Fund, for which she served as a board member. She served as president of The Thalians from 1965-1988. From the mid-1970s on she was a familiar presence on television, making dozens of appearances on talk and variety shows.

In 2009, she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. In 2015, she received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Academy Awards. In 2016, she was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center Honours.
