The Crystals formed in 1961 and consisted of singers Barbara Alston, Mary Thomas, Dolores Kenniebrew, Myrna Giraud and Patricia WrightThey were signed to Phil Spector’s label Philles Records. Their first hit,”There’s No Other (Like My Baby)“, reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA.

Phil Spector also recorded a singer called Darlene Love and the group The Blossoms at the same time, and when The Crystals couldn’t get to a recording session, Spector used the voices of Love and The Blossoms on the single “He’s A Rebel” (Gene Pitney)

The 1963 hits “Da Doo Ron Ron” and “Then He Kissed Me” (both written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich) were both Top 10 hits in the UK and USA.

In 1962, The Crystals received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Vocal Group. They disbanded in 1967 but reunited in 1972 and performed in Europe and America until they eventually split up again in 1979.

The music of the Crystals continues to be heard in various films, commercials, and soundtracks, and their songs are still popular today.
