Cilla Black’s music career began at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club after being a Cloakroom girl. It was here she met her future husband Bobby Willis and where she eventually performed alongside such acts as The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Her first single “Love of the Loved” was written by Lennon and McCartney.

In 1964 she had No 1 hits with “Anyone Who Had a Heart” and “You’re My World” and became the first British female singer to have two successive No 1 hits.  Other hits include Alfie… Something Tells Me… Step Inside Love…

In later years Cilla Black became the most highly paid woman in British television, with her shows Surprise, Surprise and Blind Date which she successfully presented for 18 years.

Cilla’s rise to stardom was recently told in an award-winning three-part drama starring Sheridan Smith.

The legendary singer turned television presenter enraptured audiences with her sparkling personality, warmth and down to earth ways.

Cilla Black was named ITV Personality of the Year for Blind Date in 1987 and Variety Club Show Business Personality of 1991. She won a Bafta in 1995 and was awarded an OBE in 1997.

On 1 August 2015, to the shock of the Nation it was announced that Cilla had died at her holiday home in Spain aged just 72. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Paul O’Grady, Bruce Forsyth and Prime Minister David Cameron were among friends, colleagues in the entertainment industry and politicians who expressed their sorrow at Cilla’s untimely death.
