Chvrches are a synth-pop band from Scotland, UK. Formed in 2011 by keyboardist/vocalist Iain Cook and including band members Martin Doherty, and Lauren Mayberry.
2012 saw the release of their debut single “The Mother We Share” and later that year, Chvrches were among the acts selected for the BBC’s Sound of 2013. The trio began 2013 by playing a few North American dates and in September of that year, they released the album ‘The Bones of What You Believe‘, which debuted at number nine on the U.K. albums chart and was later certified gold in the U.K.; it also entered the Top 20 on the charts in Canada, Australia, and the United States.
They are said to be influenced by acts such as Madonna, Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush and Cyndi Lauper. The band writes, records, mixes, and masters their songs in a basement studio in Glasgow.
