Catatonia were an alternative rock band from Wales who gained popularity in the mid- to late 1990s. The band formed in 1992 after Mark Roberts met Cerys Matthews. The first major lineup featured Dafydd Ieuan on drums, Clancy Pegg on keyboard, Owen Powell on guitar and Paul Jones on bass. They recorded two EPs, “For Tinkerbell” and “Hooked”.
The song “Road Rage” (1998), reached number 5 in May, and was nominated for best song at the Brit Awards.
Catatonia also won many awards during this period, including Best British Band at the 1998 Brit Awards.
The band went on to release several studio albums, but ultimately dissolved in 2001. Since then, former members have gone on to have successful solo careers, whilst Roberts has continued to collaborate with other artists. All four members remain close friends to this day and are widely regarded as having had a huge impact on the British indie music scene.
