Burl Ives was an American musician, singer and actor with a career that spanned more than six decades.
He was born on June 14, 1909, in Hunt, Illinois. Ives began his career as a folk singer, performing in various venues and recording several albums. He gained popularity in the 1940s with songs like “Blue Tail Fly” and “Big Rock Candy Mountain.”

In addition to his music career, Ives also pursued acting. He appeared in numerous films, including “East of Eden” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” He is perhaps best known for his role as Sam the Snowman in the 1964 animated film “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

Ives continued to perform and act well into his later years. He received several honours throughout his career, including a Grammy Award for his album “The Legend of Burl Ives” in 1958.

Burl Ives passed away on April 14, 1995, in Anacortes, Washington, at the age of 85. He left behind a rich musical and acting legacy that continues to be celebrated today.
