Brook Benton was an American singer born in South Carolina in 1931. He was, probably, best remembered for his hit recording of the song, ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’ but before he became famous he sang with gospel groups and in the early 1950’s he travelled to New York looking for a break to enter the music industry. To support himself, Brook Benton got a job in the garment industry selling clothes from a push cart during the day. At night and on weekends he would hang around recording studios and small clubs trying out for a singing spot.

Benton eventually charted a total of 49 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with other songs charting on Billboard′s rhythm and blues, easy listening, and Christmas music charts. The last album made by Benton was Fools Rush In, which was released in 2005, after his death.
