Bobby McFerrin is an American jazz vocalist, conductor, and composer.

He grew up in a musical family and started his musical training with piano lessons and later took up other instruments.

By his 20s, he was performing with local jazz bands and was quickly on his way to a successful music career.

In 1984, McFerrin released his first solo album, ‘The Voice’, and his career skyrocketed from there. He released the world-famous song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” in 1988, which topped the US Pop and R&B charts. That same year, he was also the first a cappella artist to win the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance.

He went on to win 10 more Grammy awards throughout his career, and was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 2019. He is became an artistic director of the Vocal Syzygy Ensemble and the founder of Voice Play, a vocal ensemble that specializes in vocal improvisation.
