Bic (pronounced Bec) Runga is a New Zealand singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She was surrounded by music at a young age and started recording songs with her sisters when she was four years old.
She learnt how to play drums at the age of eleven, guitar and keyboards a couple of years later. She joined high school bands and was performing with local jazz groups by her mid-teens.
The song “Sway” was an international success and garnered Bic Runga three awards at the New Zealand Music Awards of 1998.
Her songs have featured in film soundtracks and her records have been released around the world. She has won loyal followings in Europe, Asia and North America.
In January 2006, Runga was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Zealand New Year’s Honours List.
In 2016 she was the recipient of the Legacy award at the New Zealand music awards and inducted in to New Zealand Music hall of fame.
