The Beatles were formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they were widely regarded as the foremost and most influential act of that period. They were influenced by 1950’s rock and roll: by artists such as Elvis, Buddy Holly, and Eddie Cochran, but later experimented with several musical styles, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock.
