Usher began singing when he was six years old, joining the local church choir because his mother (who supported him throughout his early career), recognised budding talent in his voice.

He began participating in various local talent shows when the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and was only 14 when he was spotted by a scout for LaFace Records who subsequently signed him.

He released his self-titled debut album, Usher (1994) but rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his second album My Way (1997). “Nice & Slow” was his first number 1 chart hit and others followed suit. It sold 8 million copies worldwide and won him Grammy Awards as Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

He has made TV and film appearances and been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and Hollywood Walk of Fame.
