Tower Of Power is an American R&B-based horn section and band, which originated in in 1968.
The band’s original lineup included trumpeter Mic Gillette, tenor saxophonist/vocalist Stephen Kupka, bassist Francis “Rocco” Prestia, baritone saxophonist/vocalist Emilio Castillo, drummer David Garibaldi, guitarist Willie Fulton, and keyboard player Chester Thompson.
Tower of Power is known for their powerful horn sections and memorable songs such as “What Is Hip?”, “You’re Still a Young Man”, “Digging On James Brown”, and “Soul Vaccination.” They have collaborated with numerous artists such as Kid Rock, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Santana, Elton John, and Huey Lewis and the News.
They have released in excess of 20 studio albums and have been nominated for several Grammy Awards. They won in 2014 for Best Regional Roots Music Album for their album ‘Hipper Than Hip.’ The band was also inducted into the California Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
