Tennessee Ernie Ford

Ernest Jennings Ford (February 13, 1919 – October 17, 1991) was an American recording artist and television host who enjoyed success in the country and Western, pop, and gospel musical genres.

He started out as a radio presenter before joining the military during the Second World War.  Once delisted he returned to radio which is where he donned the “Tennessee Ernie” persona which he used whilst performing on musical tours. He was the star of a TV variety show in which he nearly always performed a variety of sketches with guests.

Tennessee Ernie Ford released over 50 singles throughout the 1950’s, including his most popular “Sixteen Tons”
