Starset
STARSET was formed in 2013 by Dustin Bates, the band’s lead vocalist and singer, and currently includes Ron DeChant (bass), Brock Richards (lead guitar), and Adam Gilbert (drums and percussion).

Bates, a scientist, conducted research for the U.S. Air Force and taught at the International Space University before forming the band.

His interest in astronomy led him to create a fictional backstory for the band via which STARSET was formed at the behest of The STARSET Society, a group from the future whose goal is to inform people about the meaning of “the Message”. The band’s job is to deliver the message through its music.

The band’s first two albums sold well and charted effectively, with multiple singles reaching the top 10 of Billboard’s mainstream rock charts. By 2017 the band achieved the milestone of having over one billion YouTube hits between its official videos and user-generated videos.

July 2013 saw the release of their debut single, “Carnivore,” swiftly followed by a second track, “My Demons,” in August 2013.
