Stars On 45
Stars on 45, sometimes billed as Starsound, is a Dutch novelty pop act that was briefly very popular throughout the world in 1981. The group produced medleys of hit songs, featuring heavy rhythm and beatboxing, and performed them with a heavy use of vocoder.
The group’s biggest hit was the 1981 medley of the Beatles’ hit songs, “Stars on 45 Medley,” which was released throughout Europe and eventually reached the United States. The band, which was created by Dutch composer Jaap Eggermont, included vocalists Corry Brokken, Lennaert Verhagen, and Laura Fygi.
The Beatles medley was the group’s first and most successful release, reaching No. 1 in both the UK and US. The single consisted of snippets from several Beatles songs strung together into a medley. The medley contained snippets from the songs “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” “Back in the U.S.S.R.,” “Hey Jude,” “The Fool on the Hill,” “Get Back,” “Revolution,” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
They released several other successful medleys, but none achieved the same level of success as the Beatles medley. The group also released several full-length albums. Stars on 45 disbanded in 1984, but its music remains popular today.
