Proclaimers (The) are a Scottish duo composed of the identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid (born 5 March 1962). They are best known for their songs : ‘I’m Gonna Be’, ‘Letter From America’, ‘I’m On My Way’ and ‘Sunshine On Leith’.
Formed after the twins had been members of several punk bands, The Proclaimers went on tour with The Housemartins in 1986 which won them much needed exposure and they subsequently released many a top 10 album with the lead singles faring well in the UK charts. The song I’m Gonna Be was an international hit at the time of its release but its success has continued for decades and provided them with their only No 1 hit when it was re-recorded for Comic Relief with comedian Peter Kay in 2007.
At time of writing they continue to tour the UK and Ireland and as far afield as Canada.
