Mari Wilson

Mari Macmillan Ramsay Wilson (born 29 September 1954, Neasden, London, UK) is a British pop and jazz singer. She is best known for her 1982 UK top-10 hit single “Just What I Always Wanted”. Despite it being two decades later, Mari was renowned for her 1960’s style, including the ‘beehive’ hair-do.

In 1983, she scored a second Top 40 hit with a cover of “Cry Me a River” (Julie London) and released her debut album ‘Showpeople‘.

Having not gained chart success again, Mari continued performing with jazz bands and concentrated on live performances of her back catalogue.

She has written and starred in a one-woman musical, The Love Thing and also writes a regular blog about her life and music.
