LL Cool J (James Todd Smith) is an American hip hop artist and actor whose music was showcased by Def Jam Records in the 1980’s.
LL Cool J crossed over into mainstream acting during the 1990’s appearing in films and TV before once again entering the studio to create music.
In January 2016, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2021, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with an award for Musical Excellence.
Having had a traumatic beginning young James’ family moved to live with his grandparents in Queens, a suburb of New York City. Rapping was very popular in this area and the youngster took enough of an interest for his grandfather and mother to invest in equipment.
