Linkin Park is an American rock band from California, formed in 1996 as Xero, with band members being Mike, Rob and Brad and later recruiting Joe, Dave and Mark. After a couple of name changes Xero became Linkin Park (a name chosen to pay homage to Lincoln Park in Santa Monica), and the line-up looked like this : Chester Bennington (lead vocals), Rob Bourdon (drums), Brad Delson (lead guitar), David “Phoenix” Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (turntables) and Mike Shinoda (rapping, keyboards, backing vocals, rhythm guitar). They released their first album in 2000. Hybrid Theory, a reference to one of the band names rejected by the group, was a huge success, selling approximately 10 million copies in the U.S. alone and including several hit singles like “In the End” and “Crawling.” The band became one of the most successful acts in the rap-rock movement. They have released several albums including Meteora, Collision Course (with Jay-Z) and more recently Living Things which sold over 200,000 copies in the first week.
Chester Bennington died unexpectedly in 2017.
