La Roux was founded by Elly Jackson in 2006. Originally a synth pop duo with Elly and co – writer/producer Ben Langmaid their single “Bulletproof” (from the album La Roux) hit number 1 in the UK Singles Charts. During the making of their second studio album, “Trouble In Paradise” Ben Langmaid left the partnership.
Elly Jackson started out with a keen interest in folk music enjoying the acoustic style of acts such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Nick Drake. Since then there have been influences from many different music genres including Gerry Rafferty, Depeche Mode, Fever Ray and White Lies. As well as their own material, the project often performs alongside and collaborate with other artists. La Roux is strong on the festival scene and have been nominated for numerous awards, winning (amongst others) a Grammy Award for Best Electronic Dance Album for La Roux.
