Keith Whitley (July 1, 1954 – May 9, 1989) was an American country music singer.
Whitley began playing guitar at an early age and by his teens, he was playing in local bands. He was influenced by a wide range of music, including bluegrass, honky-tonk, and rock. He spent some time in a bluegrass band with Ricky Skaggs.
In the early 1980s, Whitley moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music and signed with RCA Records. He released his debut album, A Hard Act to Follow, in 1985. The album was a success, producing several hit singles, and establishing Whitley as a rising star in country music.
Whitley continued to release successful albums and singles throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1988and was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2022.
Keith Whitley was a talented singer and guitarist who had a promising career in country music. His untimely death was a tragedy, but his music continues to live on and influence other artists.
