Karen Souza is a jazz and bossa nova singer. She has been performing since the early 2000s and has released four albums. Her music has been featured in films and television shows, including The Hangover Part II and Grey’s Anatomy.
Souza was born in Rio de Janeiro and began her career singing in clubs and hotels in her hometown. She later moved to New York City, where she recorded her first album, Brazilian Nights (2005). She has since released three more albums: The New Bossa Nova (2007), Esperanto (2009), and Velvet Vault (2011).
A relative late comer to the Jazz genre, Karen Souza has honed her singer / songwriting skills and developed her own unique style.
At the start of her career she lent her voice to various electronic music productions, but it was when she worked on the series “Jazz and 80’s” which featured jazz style covers of well known songs such as “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” – Culture Club, that she found her niche in jazz.
With her quiet deep vocals Karen Souza cites Billie Holliday, Nina Simone and Louis Armstrong amongst her inspirational artists.
