Joy Williams – Joy Elizabeth Williams (born November 14, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter. She is winner of four Grammy Awards and has released several solo albums and EPs since her self-titled debut in 2001. She was half of The Civil Wars duo from 2009 until 2014.
From 2009 until 2014 she was part of the group ‘The Civil Wars’. The duo’s debut album, Barton Hollow, was released in 2011 and received widespread praise. It earned them two Grammy Awards, including Best Folk Album, and a nomination for Best New Artist.
Following the success of Barton Hollow, The Civil Wars released their self-titled second album in 2013. However, the duo announced their indefinite hiatus shortly after its release due to internal conflicts. Despite the disbandment, Williams continued to pursue her solo career.
In 2015, Williams released her fifth solo album, Venus. The album showcased a departure from her folk roots, incorporating elements of pop, electronic, and dance music. It received positive reviews and further established Williams as a versatile artist.
Williams has also collaborated with various artists throughout her career. She has worked with the likes of Taylor Swift, John Paul White, Matt Berninger, and Chris Cornell, among others.
