Jimmy Barnes is an Australian folk singer who was born in Glasgow, Scotland.
His career spans over forty years. During this time, he has been the lead vocalist of two successful bands, Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes & The Bleeding Hearts. He has also released several solo studio albums, including his 1984 debut ‘For the Working Class Man.’
Jimmy Barnes was born James Dixon Swan on April 28, 1956, in Glasgow, Scotland. His family emigrated to Adelaide, Australia, when he was four years old. Barnes began his musical career in 1973, when he joined the rock band Cold Chisel as their lead singer. The band achieved great success in Australia, with Barnes’s powerful vocals becoming a key component of their sound. They released six albums between 1978 and 1983, before disbanding.
Barnes launched his solo career in 1984 with the release of his debut album ‘For the Working Class Man’. The album was a huge success, reaching number one on the Australian charts and spawning the hit single “Working Class Man”. Barnes followed up with his second album, ‘Freight Train Heart’, in 1987. The album was another huge success, reaching number one on the Australian charts and spawning the hit singles “No Second Prize” and “Waitin’ for the Heartache”.
In the early 1990s, Barnes formed the band Jimmy Barnes & The Bleeding Hearts. The band released two albums before Barnes returned to his solo career in 1995
Throughout his career, Barnes has sold over twelve million records and won numerous awards, including eight ARIA Music Awards and induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
