Jet began as a garage band in Melbourne, Australia. The Cester brothers, Nic and Chris, started the band with friends Cameron Muncey and Mark Wilson. The band was influenced by classic rock groups such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. Jet’s first gig was at a friend’s birthday party in 2001.
The band’s big break came in 2002 when they were discovered by Rolling Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham. Oldham signed the band to his record label and their debut album, Get Born, was released. The album was a commercial success, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. The album’s first single, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl“, was a massive hit, reaching #1 on the Australian charts and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
In 2004, the band was nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album.
