Friends Of Distinction were an American vocal group formed in 1968.
Original members Floyd Butler, Harry Elston, Jessica Cleaves, and Barbara Jean Love. Butler and Elston had worked together in The Hi-Fi’s in the mid 1960s, often opening for Ray Charles.
They are best known for their late 1960s hit, “Grazing in the Grass“. Released in March 1969, this gold record went Top 5 on both the pop and soul charts in the U.S., peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June.
“Love or Let Me Be Lonely,” “Time Waits for No One,” and “I Need You” also charted for the group, though none was as rewarding as the group’s first hit. The group also encountered some personnel changes following the early success.
