Darius Rucker founded the American rock pop band Hootie & the Blowfish and attained multi-platinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist but since then, Rucker has made a country music career of his own. His remake of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel” made it to the top of Billboard’s Country Singles Chart.
Once on the solo circuit, Darius Rucker recorded and released a R & B album in 2002 but he describes his foray into R& B as a “moment in time” and released his first country album called Learn to Live in 2008. “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”, a single from the album went to the top 20 in the Billboard charts making Rucker the first African-American singer to reach the top of the country charts since Charley Pride and in 2009, he became the first black man to win the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association
With his third solo country album the massive hit “Wagon Wheel,” reached the number one spot on the country singles charts and crossed over to 15 on the pop charts and his 2014 digital release “Homegrown Honey” didn’t do so well in the charts but is loved by country music fans.
In December 2018 it was announced that Darius would rejoin Hootie & The Blowfish for a tour in 2019 and recording of a new album.
