Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a stage musical based on the 1964 children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. Two musical films have been released: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) directed by Mel Stuart, and starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka.
The original score and songs were composed by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, and musical direction was by Walter Scharf. The soundtrack was first released by Paramount Records in 1971
