Sir Julius Benedict (27 November 1804 – 5 June 1885) was a German-born composer, conductor, and teacher of music and was resident in England for most of his career.
He showed considerable musical talent as a boy. At the age of fifteen he became a pupil of Johann Nepomuk Hummel at Weimar and in 1821 went to Dresden to study musical composition under Carl Maria von Weber.
