Lee Hazlewood was an American country music singer-songwriter and record producer. Born in Mannford, Oklahoma, he moved to Port Neches, Texas as a teenager and began his musical career as a disc jockey. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then returned to the United States, where he wrote and produced songs for a number of artists, including Duane Eddy, Nancy Sinatra, and Gram Parsons. He had his first major success with the song “The Fool,” which was a hit for Sanford Clark in 1956. As a producer, and he had a major impact on the sound of country music in the 1960s.

Hazlewood’s most successful collaboration was with Nancy Sinatra, with whom he wrote and produced a number of hit songs, including “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” and “Sugar Town”. He also wrote and produced a number of other notable songs, including “Some Velvet Morning” (a duet with Nancy Sinatra), “Jackson” (a duet which was also performed by Johnny Cash and June Carter), and “Summer Wine” (a duet with Nancy Sinatra).

Hazlewood was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. He died in 2007 at the age of 78.
