Johnny Paycheck (born Donald Eugene Lytle; May 31, 1938 – February 19, 2003) was an American country music singer-songwriter and musician.

By age 9, he was already playing in talent contests and was singing professionally by age 15.

He is remembered for his working man’s anthems and his recording of the David Allan Coe song “Take This Job and Shove It“, which became a #1 country hit and helped to make him one of country music’s most recognizable voices.

In the 1970s, his career began to take off. He signed with Epic Records in 1974 and released a string of hit singles, including the self-penned “She’s All I Got” and the David Allan Coe-penned “Take This Job and Shove It“, which became his signature song. The latter song was also a major hit on the pop charts, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Paycheck continued to release successful albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s and, after a spell in prison, made a comeback in the late 1990’s with his album ‘Johhny Paycheck Sings George Jones

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.
