Danny Wilson Backing Tracks – Mary’s Prayer

Danny Wilson were a 3 piece Scottish pop rock band.

Members included: Gary Clark (vocals, guitar), Ged Grimes (bass guitar), and Kit Clark (guitar). The band’s music was a mix of pop and rock, with influences from the likes of The Beatles and Steely Dan.

After forming in the mid-1980s, Danny Wilson signed a deal with Virgin Records and released their debut album, “Meet Danny Wilson,” in 1987. The album received positive reviews from critics, but it was their single “Mary’s Prayer” that brought them mainstream success.

“Mary’s Prayer” was released in 1988 and became a hit in the UK, reaching number 3 on the singles chart. The song also performed well in other countries, including the United States, where it reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite the success of the track, Danny Wilson struggled to replicate its chart success with their subsequent releases. Their second album, “Bebop Moptop,” was released in 1989 but failed to generate any hit singles.

Following the disbandment of Danny Wilson in the early 1990s, Gary Clark went on to have a successful career as a songwriter, working with numerous artists across various genres. He has co-written several hit songs, including Natalie Imbruglia‘s “Torn” and Liz Phair’s “Why Can’t I?”

Ged Grimes joined the popular Scottish band Simple Minds as a bass guitarist in 1996 and has been a core member of the group ever since. Kit Clark went on to play with Deacon Blue and Swiss Family Orbison.

While Danny Wilson’s time in the spotlight was relatively short-lived, their hit single “Mary’s Prayer” continues to be a beloved song and a pop music classic.
