Christmas Number One’s
Looking back at Christmas Number One’s
In the UK, Christmas number ones are singles that are top of the UK Singles Charts in the week in which Christmas Day falls. Record sales tend to peak at Christmas; with the Christmas Number One being considered to be more prestigious than a Number One at any other time of year. Novelty songs, charity songs or songs with a Christmas theme have regularly been at the top of the Christmas charts.
The Beatles were the only act to have had four Christmas Number Ones until the charity act Ladbaby made it five in 2022. Paul McCartney has been top eight times with various acts. Cliff Richard has had four Christmas Number Ones: two as a solo act, one with the Shadows and one with Band Aid II. The Spice Girls had three consecutive Christmas Number Ones with Mel C achieving her forth as a member of The Justice Collective.
