The band found success for the songs “Oblivious”, “Somewhere in My Heart”, and “Good Morning Britain”.

The initial band members were Roddy Frame on guitar and vocals, Campbell Owens on bass, and Dave Mulholland on drums.

March 1981, the group released the single “Just Like Gold” which rose to number ten on the U.K. Independent charts. In 1982, Aztec Camera signed with a new record company who released the single “Pillar to Post”. 1982 also saw the departure of Dave Mulholland from the group, with John Hendry taking over as drummer.

In 1983, their debut album, ‘High Land, Hard Rain’, was released in the U.K. The band also expanded for live performances to include guitarist Craig Gannon and keyboardist Bernie. Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits had a hand in producing their second album, ‘Knife’ (1984). In the subsequent period, the group fragmented, leaving Frame and Campbell as the only original members. From 1985 onwards the group used session musicians for performances and recording.

Roddy Frame continued to release new music under the name Aztec Camera and as a solo artist.
