Ricky Valance – David Spencer known professionally as Ricky Valance, was a Welsh pop singer.
He was best known for the UK number one single “Tell Laura I Love Her“. He was the first male Welsh singer to have a UK number one single hit.

Valance sang in the church choir as a youngster and in his teens he joined the armed forces.
He began his music career after serving 3 years in the R.A.F. Having performed in clubs and cabarets he was finally signed to a record company and “Tell Laura I Love Her” was born. Unfortunately the song was surrounded in controversy because of its maudlin content. Airplay was restricted on mainstream radio, but ‘pirate radio’ gave it an airing. As a result of this it soared to number 1 in the UK charts.
After this, Valance tried his hand at becoming the UK entry into the Eurovision Song Contest, but stalled in third place.
He was a professional entertainer on the club and nostalgia circuit for 60 years.
