Nena, is a German singer and songwriter who rose to international fame in 1983 as the lead vocalist of a band carrying her name.

They released the song “99Luftballoons” in 1983 and in 1984 an English-language version titled “99 Red Balloons” was a success in the UK, Europe and Japan.
