Lena Martell (born Helen Thomson; 15 May 1940,  Glasgow) is a Scottish singer, who had a number one UK single with “One Day at a Time” in 1979.  She began singing at the age of 11 with her eldest brother’s band. She also made appearances on television in the late 1950’s

Her first album, Lena Martell, was released in 1968 and released a number of standards in the 1970s on the Pye record label

Lena Martell’s had success with the single “One Day at a Time”, included reaching number one in the UK in 1979. The song was originally recorded by country singer, Merle Haggard and was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson. Martell’s version was used as the theme tune to a UK television sitcom with the same name.
