Johnny Burnette (March 25, 1934 – August 14, 1964) was an American rockabilly singer / song writer.
He was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1934 and grew up listening to the music of Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. Burnette was a talented musician and could play both the guitar and the piano. He formed his own band, The Johnny Burnette Trio along with his brother, Dorsey Burnette, and their mutual friend Paul Burlison. In 1956 and they had a hit song with “The Train Kept A-Rollin.” The Trio toured with some of the biggest names in rock and roll including Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins.
“Dreamin’” is a song written by Barry De Vorzon and Ted Ellis and performed by Johnny Burnette. The song appeared on his 1960 album, ‘Dreamin”. The song reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960.The song was ranked #86 on Billboard magazine’s Top Hot 100 songs of 1960.

Burnette’s career was cut short when he died in a boating accident in 1964. He was only 30 years old. Despite his short career, Burnette left a lasting impression on the world of rock and roll. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
